America has become an overweight nation.  Most people hop from one fad diet to the next.  These diets may take weight off initially, but without true lifestyle changes the pounds will be right back soon enough.  If you want to truly loose weight and become more healthy there are some simple steps you can take.  It is not a magic pill and will not happen overnight, but you can change weight and outlook. 

First of all eat less and more often.  I know it sounds ridiculously simple, but in order to loose weight you need to reduce your calorie intake.  If you starve yourself your body will store fat and your metabolism will slow down.  Instead try to eat three to six small meals per day.  Avoid large food intakes at one time, and always start out with something for breakfast to get your metabolism started.  You may to choose to do a food journal and keep up with calories.  This works well for many people.  Once you begin to record everything you eat you may be shocked at how much it adds up to and be able to make better choices.  If this is too much trouble you may simple want to try eating half as much as before.  Use your plate as a guide and either fill it half full or only eat half of what is there and save the rest for later.  The clean your plate rule is not a good way to loose weight. 

Second eat food high in fiber.  You may choose take a fiber supplement if it is hard to get enough in your daily diet.  Studies show that women who get at least   grams of fiber per day weigh less. 

Also, you have heard it before, but drink lots of water.  You should get at least eight glasses of water per day, and more if you exercise a lot.  Staying hydrated is good for your skin as well.  Also, water may fill you up and keep you from eating so many calories.  A glass of water prior to each meal is a good way to avoid overeating at meal time. 

 Finally, you need to get exercise.  Try to get at least ten minutes of exercise per day or thirty minutes three times a week.  Exercise will help you feel better as well as burn extra calories.
